In 1941, the air craft hangers were targeted by Japanese bombers and Japanese fighters concentrated on the air craft.The bullets contained phosphorus element that caused fires to start. Major airfields attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor were:Hickam Field-a bomber command,Wheeler Field- a fighter command, Ford Naval- an air station, Bellows Field-observation squadron & gunnery practice, Ewa Marine Corps air station, & Kaneohe Naval air station. Aircraft losses at Pearl Harbor: about U.S. Navy planes=90 lost & 33 damaged, U.S. Army=77 lost & 128 damaged. Japanese lost 9 fighters, 15 dive bombers, & 5 torpedo bombers.
